Day of Cowering
Dodo has bad memory’s of today and still has flash backs of being accosted and vigorously rubbed with a potato! He was further disturbed by having a flat patch which smelt of potato for several days afterwards!
In memory of that memory, he now hides on this day.
The People of Hamlyn mark today as the ‘Robing of the Rubber’ and harks back to the days of Hamlyn’s rat infestation and the appointment of an officer to go round and rub rats with potato’s.This was unfortunately one of the towns better vegetable based ideas, though more successful than any of the others apart from the man involved having a more impressive hat.
