URG recommends..

This is a new bit which i will throw in now and then to add a bit of variety to the show, a bit like the music to Dodo too but a recommendation for something i feel compliments the Dodoverse, or at least contributed to my state of mind!

For my first posting URG heartily (its own and any other it can lay its hands one!) recommends the film Labyrinth.

Made by Jim Henson (creator of the muppets etc) with artistic design by Brian Froud, the film is a lavish fantasy with live actor and puppets.Made in 1986 the film does not age and will appeal to anyone with an imagination and a young heart.

The story starts in the real world, a young girl is babysitting and foolishly wishes the goblins would come and takeaway her crying step-brother.The gobins are listening and the goblin king takes the baby.Regretting her decision the girl enters the realm of the gobin king and travels through his maze to try and free her brother…

Her journey through the maze brings her new friends and many strange adventures with an assortment of weird and wonderful creatures while the Goblin king tries to stop her.The film stars Jennifer Connelly as the heroine and David Bowie as the Goblin king (special mention must go to his tights…once you have seen them you will know!) and he also provided the soundtrack to the film.

I don’t want to go into too much detail, just have a sniff round the web and there are enough reviews that will do a much better job than i can, but also because I would much rather you see the film.I saw Labyrinth when it first came out at the cinema and loved it from the first, the story, the visuals, the characters and the humour all work perfectly with strong performance from both the main actors and some amazing puppetry.

If you have seen it before go and watch it again, and if you haven’t seen it, well you have now been told and have no excuse…go, go now!

A companion to the film using Brian Frouds fantaastic artwork is also available, the book details many of the goblins from the film as well as a selected history of the goblin realm.

Very Dodo and worth grabbing.
